How long does the results of a gastric lap band surgery really last? Do you ever gain the weight back?

Will the effects (weight loss) of this surgery be an everlasting thing? I’m in my thirties so will this procedure last until I’m in my seventies? Does anyone know?? Thanks for the input!!

Totally depends on you. My mom lost a lot, but then within a few months gained it all back. You can still stretch it back out, so it all depends on what you eat.

If you don’t change your diet, most people usually regain the weight. I’ve known way too many folks that are forced into being bulimics or malnutrition from gastric surgeries & still gain the weight back within a few years.
Nearly 6 years ago, I started Atkins low carb way of eating to just quit gaining weight. I had to get my out of control appetite under control. I never imagined I could LOSE weight without hunger or exercise, since I’ve become disabled. I never bothered weighing or measuring til I’d noticed that my clothes got huge quick. When my health improved dramatically also, I knew this was my new way of life and since it’s eat all you want (of low carb foods) I know I can do this for life.
My personal carb level is low. I am older & disabled & don’t move much (or cook much) but I eat all I want of meats, eggs, cheeses, yogurt, fats, green vegetables, almonds, berries, flax seeds, chia seeds, shirataki noodles and other foods. Someone active would have a MUCH higher carb level & can usually include all fruits, beans, whole grain products but not sugar & highly refined carbs in unlimited amounts. As long as you have

I had the lapband surgery a few years ago. I have been a slow loser. However, I have lost about 55 pounds and have not gained back any weight. The band is adjustable, so if you maintain your adjustments you are less likely to gain back than with other surgeries. There is also no malabsorption with the band. Although I am not losing as much as I’d like, I am not yo-yo’ing like I have in the past, and I haven’t gained back anything I’ve lost. There are some things about the band that are hard, and it’s nearly impossible to eat some foods, like sandwhiches. You should join a yahoogroup for bandsers.
People have had bands inside them for 10-20 years, but the new technology makes it hard to really know what the long-lasting effects are. Lots of young people are getting it done. The surgery is not that intrusive, I was able to work two days after having the band placed.
