My mom had the Gastric Bypass surgery, it was $30,000. Our insurance covered it because she was a good candidate for it. You have to be 100lbs overweight, or obese for your height. I believe she had to pay $2000 out of the $30,000, it pays to have good health insurance. She just had to have her doctors recommendation.
12-25 thousand for the procedure, every appointment after is 400 for lapband.
Gastric is 20-30 thousand dollars.
Insurance usually wont help you pay unless you are morbidly obese and cant move anymore.
So i would say if you can walk, just exercise and save the money. if you cant move out of bed or a chair, u should think about getting it done.

You may be a candidate for surgery if you have a BMI of 40 or more (for women, this means you would have at least 80 pounds to lose)

Do I Qualify for Lap-Band Surgery?
Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is a useful indicator of whether or not you are a good candidate for LAP-BAND Surgery. In general, weight loss surgery and the LAP-BAND® procedure may be the right approach if your BMI is over 40. For some people with a BMI less than 40 who have obesity related health conditions, LAP-BAND Surgery may still be a good choice. Other than BMI, a good indicator is if you weigh twice your ideal weight or are at least 100 pounds overweight.

As a nurse I have alot of experience with lap band surgeries. The cost will depend on whether you have adjustable gastric banding or lap band surgery in the U.S. or travel to another country. You are not likely to be covered by health insurance unless you are what they call morbidly obese. See my article on the cost of lap band surgery at. It is expensive. try to explore every other way to lose weight first if you possibly can. Lap band surgery like all other surgeries has a lot of risks. There are less risks with lap band surgery over gastric bypass because gastric bypass in permanent. In either case people may gain weight back so it is no guarantee it will work. Sometimes these surgeries can cause new problems. If your life is threatened and there is no other way out then explore lap band surgery over gastric bypass. Talk to patients who have had lap band or other adjustable gastric banding surgery done. Find out all the risks you’ll be taking. Nurse Kindheart
