Lap Band Cost – What is the Price of Lap Band Surgery?

Many people wonder exactly how much a lap band procedure would cost. The good thing is of course that many insurance companies will cover the costs of a lap band procedure, but in some cases this is not always feasible. Unfortunately this question is not easy to answer. The prices associated with a lap band procedure can vary based on a number of variables. Before you even think about the costs it is also important that you ensure that you can qualify for the lap band procedure but upon completion of this task, you then have to start looking at the variables associated with your particular procedure.

A person whose body mass index is either equal or greater than 40 will be eligible. Some people whose body mass index is between 35 and 39 may also qualify for the lap band procedure. The reasons for this is that if you fail the standard requirements to be eligible for a lap band procedure you will also be ineligible for insurance assistance and be required to pay for the entire procedure out of pocket.

Depending on your locale and the surgeon who performs this procedure the costs associated with a lap band procedure can range anywhere from $17,000 to $30,000. This of course is assuming that you do not have any complications associated with the procedure. These fees will also not include the standard post operative check up appointments.

You may also opt to have the lap band procedure performed by a surgeon outside of the U.S. borders in which case the fees can range from $11,000 to $16,000 for the procedure itself. In the event that you do decide to undergo a lap band procedure outside the U.S. then it is important that you make sure to do your research about the surgeon and clinic in which this procedure will be performed.
