Everyone is always talking about how child obesity is a big problem. Probably some parents are saying to them ” Oh, don’t eat that! ” or ” You need to eat more healthier” or maybe something similar. What are your opinions on it? ” Silly or ” Important?

let your kids eat what they want, but manage it. your kid obviously isn’t the one driving to mcdonald’s or going to the store or cooking the food…you can be in control, but also let a kid be a kid
i think is important cause ppl will look very ugly!
I honestly think its not as bad as researchers make it seem. I only know of about two “porky” people in my life and rarely see them on the streets
Silly.
The best way to lose weight is diet and exercise. If you exercise, but eat really poor foods, then you will gain weight. Likewise, if you just eat vegetables, but never stand or do any other sort of exercise, you will gain weight.
Parents just need to encourage their kids to play, and do physical activity, along with eating moderately healthy foods.
this is definitly an important issue due to that obesity leads to diabetes and other health risks that really could be avoided. obesity also causes shorter life expectancy and the parents of obese children are to blame in most if not all cases cause either the parents are obese and pass down bad genes or the parents let the kids eat junk food all day and not get any exercise and make them into fat slobs to pass down to more generations.
This should be a vital wake-up call to parents.
We’re producing a generation of couch potatoes; with video games, cell phones, & computers.
They have no knowledge of good nutrition, or proper exercise.
They have been raised on junk food; empty calories & soda pop.
Yes, parents should feed their children healthier food and healthier portions. They should also send their kids otuside to play more often. In fact, some paretns are fat too and should probably go outside and play with their kids! LOL.
I have no problem with kids having junk food….but in moderation. Fast food several times a week is just nasty!
We should not torture our kids by not letting them have goodies every now and then, but some parents are not restricting the amount of food they eat or the kinds of food they eat. For example, we are training our kids from an early age to love Mcdonalds Chicken Nuggets. instead teach them to love the apples or low fat yogurt. Make them feel like the healthy snacks are rewards rather than a requirement.
Dont get me wrong, I am not a health freak but if we want our kids to live a healthy life, we have to start them off the right way. Good luck!
I think parents with obese children should pay extra taxes.
It’s very important. Obesity and poor diet are the number one killers and cost us huge amounts of money in taxes that could go to other things if people just exercised and didn’t shove their greedy faces with food. The problem is that parents don’t teach their kids to eat and are fat themselves so they don’t pass on good eating habits and this costs our society hugely. The major cause of this is that sugars and grains are heavily subsidized by the government through the Farm Bill and so these things are more attractive to poor people than healthy choices. It is also a cultural lack of understanding of preventative health and the influenced of powerful grain lobbies that push these types of eating habits on us (like the USDA food pyramid with grains on the bottom when it should be VEGGIES, beans and whole grains).
I think it is child abuse to not provide your child with a good diet so that they can lead a healthy, long and productive life. You wouldn’t deny your child a very basic education (and the state wont let you) why do they let you deny them a healthy diet? Shame on parents of obese kids, you are failing your children. very few kids really have “glandular disorders” or predisposition or whatever people blame it on … it is what you eat and lack of exercise that makes you fat 9 times out of 10.
Doctors are seeing children with high cholesterol and high blood pressure and that used to be rare decades ago. No telling what kind of health those children are going to be in by the time they are 20-30 years old and supposed to be in the prime of their lives.
Important. Go to hulu.com and watch Jamie Oliver’s food revolution. It would give you an INSANE insight on kids eating habits. He goes to the unhealthiest town in the US and tries to make changes in schools. When it comes down to it though, it REALLY is the –parents– descions to be well informed for their kids sakes. The schools can change everything, but a lot of kids still go home to eat junk food/parents pack the kids lunch to school which also ends up being crap. It’s a tough battle!!!
I consider stuffing a child with fast food and junk a form of child abuse.
I don’t know what kind of person looks at the outside of a McDonalds and thinks “dinner” but that is a low intelligence person.
They eat chips, cakes, biscuits, fast food. They NEVER eat an apple!
Never eat plain yoghrut, its always go HFCS in it, or they eat ice cream and sugary smoothies instead and that is whay they call normal food.
Children eat pizza as a snack on the way home from school and that’s not their dinner, thats just in between meals!
I am shocked to be honest and I think it is disgusting to let anyone eat fast food junk food, greasy fake crap and processed food all day every day, and not even KNOW what a vegetable is, To me that is criminal if you feed your children those foods.
They are not food. They are just 100 processed ingredients. There is no vitamins or anything in bags of chips and coke. It’s great to eat lovely junk food, but all the time?
nd to consider McDonalds, Burger King, Jack in the Box or Taco Bell as your dinner choices is just plain ignorant. and yet I see it here all the time “what should I eat tongith these are my choices”,
ad no that is NOT your choices. Go buy a damn apple and some brown rice.
I think it is disgusting and I have no pite or sympathy for people who stuff their children with stuff like that. Or the people eating that way themselves. No ALL the time, but they do it.
ONce a week or even like every two days, have fast food, but they eat junk in between meals and snack and eat the whole time and its is wrong wrong wrong.
It is so unhealthy to be eating or snacking all the time.
CHildren do what they see, so it’s only the parents who are too lazy or ignorant to do anythig else.
But really don’t tell me that anyone actually thinks a Big Mac is your serving of vegetables just cos it has a pickle.
I don’t even give a hoot, they can eat themselves to death all I care.
Americans should all do that.
Well, the issue of Obesity is important because science has proven it deeply affects a person’s overall health. Parents [some] do have some control over what, and how their children eat. Of course, like nearly everything, providing good sound reasonable counciling to a child during their early development will help shape their ideas. But, let’s not forget, some people just don’t like certain foods (like Peas, or Seafood, Cauliflower and such) regardless of what their age happens to be, and there is the issue of food allergies—Peanuts, Nuts period—can be deadly to some people…

Apart from the health issues that I think we are all aware of – if a child is restricted from doing all the things that they should be doing i.e. physically, socially or whatever, thru being obese, then it becomes very important matter. This will affect the child for the rest of their life.
The important thing is that we are aware of the problems that can arise so obesity can be monitored.
Anything involving the future of our children is paramount
Cheers
Kids should definitely be eating healthy from the start. Because the issue is that its obviously the parents who introduce eating habits to children, and those children will grow up used to eating Mickey D’s and Twinkies for dinner and dessert. I think that it’s irresponsible to feed your children unhealthy foods because you are the one who will mold their eating habits. Then again, it’s also silly to not let your kids have an ice cream cone now and then or throw away all their Halloween candy. Part of being a kid is enjoying the not so healthy foods, but in moderation (:
Prevention is better than the cure – healthcare professionals tell us it leads to health problems.
True story: My younger sister was a very fussy eater as a small child until about 3 from then on she started to eat everything, my parents encouraged her as she had been so thin and frail before. By the time she was 10 she was obese. Her weight has gotten as much as 170 kilos at one time, she is in her mid 20s now, her teenage years were torture for her, as she could not wear the trendy clothes the others girls did, she was miserable from starving herself and, in the end she had her stomach stapled, lost a lot of weigh, gained it all again, has had multiple liposuction, operations and is depressed and suicidal, as she is unable to get pregnant, the doctors have told her her weight is an issue, this is causing a strain on her marriage as her husband wants children.
I think it is very important that we make sure children eat healthy foods.
I say do not deprive yourself, eat everything, but in moderation
My opinion is that there are far too many fat kids waddling around.
I think that parents should just let the kids eat whatever they want, given that one warning has been made. Kids who don’t give a crap about their own health can go eat their candy bars and soda pop, because all it does is give the rest of us a better chance to pursue what we want in life- let it be husbands/wives, careers, 1st place in a track meet!
important
i feel SO bad when i see an overweight kid
when your little your supposed to be running around being all hyper..not running out of breath and just sitting around playing video games or watching cartoons
In my town, every kid in town is OBESE, and I see A LOT of fat kids in other towns ,both large and small.Obesity is definitely a problem. AMERICA is definitely the fatest nation around.
Well, from what I see, it is a problem.
